I feel like I was just introduced to an amazing friend I can learn a lot from. I so appreciate your wisdom and strength in this trial.
I was diagnosed with MS last December, and am trying to develope some habits on responding in trust and gratitude. I praise God for blessing me with coming across your blog. You appear to be a virtual mentor to many women.

I stumbled across your blog, saw chronic illness and was floored when I saw that you had Ankylosing Spondylitis. I too, as a woman have AS (so much easier than spelling it out!) While I do not have nearly as severe they symptoms you seem to, it is nice to know I am not the only woman out there with it. My father also has it and has it pretty severe, he too suffers from the iritis, and is fully fused in his spine and rib cage. I have learned from him however that is a disease that can either affect you both mentally and physically, or you can fight it mentally and not allow it to affect you, and continue on with your life! My dad was fusing by the time my brother and I were born and even though he had pain and limited lung capacity, it didn't stop him from working out or playing with us as kids. The only time you saw its limits actually was when we went to Disneyland and he couldn't go on the really jerky rides like space mountain or Indiana Jones. Even now in all is fused glory, he walks my parents dogs twice a day, is building a built in libarary from hand in their new house. I have learned to "deal" with my pain when I have flair ups, but I never let it limit me and my ability to do things. Yes, sometimes I am slower than normal, or walk a little funny, but one should not let this disease control their lives, cause then the disease wins. So carry on in you AS fight and don't let it control you.

I am absolutely floored. I stumbled on your blog by just clicking 'next blog' and your first post (which I commented on as well) blew me away. Then I decided I wanted to know what it is you have since I also suffer from an auto-immune disease.

Your story is absolutely amazing. If anyone has ever thought they have aches and pains, they should come read this. I will forever be inspired by you.

What you are dealing with is so terrifying, yet you are dealing with it so gracefully. Bravo.

It's not often that someone really sparks a fire in me and makes me feel that anything is possible, but I must say you have done that for me. You are so brave, and so strong, and so courageous.

I've just recently found you and I am in awe of your strength, faith, love and joy. I am humbled as I read about your disease and your days. I suffer from chronic pain, in the form of a daily, never ending, just changing in intensity migraines. All due to occiptal nerve damage six years ago. 6 months I fell deep in depression and am fighting my way back. The pain is incredible, dabilitating. I've been to every dr up and down the eastern seaboard. But I want the JOY back. You have inspired me to fight for my joy again. Thank you, my friend, thank you for being you!

Thanks Sara,
It certainly isn't something I've thought about a doubt that it is a concern
but he got sick from everything for about a year, had sore joints and deep
tissue, and then the iritis. Seems to have resolved mostly but I always try
to stay informed. I'm so sorry you have had to walk this road.

I'm so glad she liked the canvases... that's so flattering!!!

When I was diagnosed, mom remembered that my great-grandpa was fused into the position of his wheelchair when he died; they had to break his bones to lay him flat in the coffin. They didn't have a name for it back then, but I'm sure he had AS. My oldest brother was diagnosed with psoriatic spondylitis a few years after me. Where mine started in the larger joints/spine and moved elsewhere, his started in the smaller joints and moved bigger. He has slowed down some, but is living a very productive life and able to take the medications, which is a huge blessing. He has three kids to keep up with and it makes me incredibly grateful he's able to so well.
