Nice to see you chat :) You are really sounding better each time. I am so excited for you :)
I love the story of the book you read. It is beautiful. We don't always need tons of reasons, just one we feel strongly about.

Oh, Sara, so glad you're back as much as you can be.

I remember reading the book Karen. I do believe (or think i do) there was a sequel "With Love From Karen" but i may be getting that mixed up.

Loved hearing from you today, & as always, looking forward to the next time.

    :)

sara!!! so great to see you here. i love how vivid your memories are from childhood. i have very few and to hear you tell yours in such detail is amazing.

i do remember my favorite book and many details from it. "no language but a cry". since then i have always had a heart to help those who have been through loss/tragedy/abuse in childhood. it's funny how God has allowed me to do that, although not as i had planned.

love ya, girl. look forward to hearing more from you. praying tomorrow finds you even stronger than today!

Great answers! I love the one about the book. I love a great book, and that it was so meaningful later in your life makes it extra special.

    Take care!

I had that same Crayola calligraphy set!! But it drove me NUTS. I thought it was SO hard. Clearly, I was not gifted like you. LOVE your fonts!

What a wonderful memory you brought back to me by mentioning the book Karen! It was one of my favorites as a kid too, and there was indeed a sequel called With Love From Karen which was equally inspiring.

Now I'm going to check out your fonts!

Nice to hear from you again...MGM

I got a calligraphy set one year for Christmas and LOVED it, too! :)

Isn't it amazing how our God is in the tiniest details? Preparing your heart for your future by having you read that book as a child is an amazing act of love - so cool!!

I've missed you! Glad to "see" you back for a little bit. Always praying for you, lovely lady!

I'm out of practice, taken a few times to get it to work. Doesn't look like your writing skills are too terribly rusty at all. Feels great to see read/hear your words again. I love the story about the book. "A God moment," to be certain. And the calligraphy set, someone saw something in you and knew just how to bring you the tools you needed. Always fascinating to me to see how our seeds were planted and by whom!

I have books from my childhood that impacted me, too, but not in such a tangible way. How good that "Karen" came to mind just when you needed it. Almost like God knew. :) So nice to *see* you.

I also read that book. Wasn't it good. I remember rereading it years later. And I see from another comment there's a sequel. I'll look for it tomorrow at the bookstore. Glad to see your post. Praying for you.

You can't imagine how excited I get when I am checking my facebook page and see that there is a blog post from you there! Makes for such a happy surprise! So sorry I missed your call the other day! I will try again soon. Things are a bit crazy around here right now, as you can imagine, but all good!

Oh yeah, on a random note...have to share a bit of really good news. Ian's therapist started his annual review today (still has a couple tests yet to do next week), and as of right now...he tested within the normal range of his peers!!! still has a few things to work on (as we all do), but she thinks that when we move, he will not need to start back up again. she said to give it about 6 months and see how he does before thinking about starting up again. Happy happy day!!! :) :) :) :)

Fingers AND toes crossed for you!

How amazing that a book had such a profound impact on your life! I love that. :)

Love your answers! Sounds like a great book. It's amazing how what we read (or watch or listen too) can influence our lives.
    Thanks!!

    Hi Sara,
I remember reading that book and being profoundly affected by it too! It gave me a sense of understanding for those who are handicapped and I remember that I never again thought they were 'weird, strange or different'. I had such a heart for them, which became an incredibly important thing because many years later I gave birth to a little girl with special needs. She is 22 now and has been a true light in my life. Part of my being able to accept a "less than perfect child" (what does that mean anyways?!) goes to the impact of the book "Karen". Thanks for bringing it up. I hadn't thought of it for many years.

Sara! I was just thinking about that book a couple of weeks ago! Wasn't Karen's nickname "Wren"? (I don't think I'm confusing that with another book ...) I do remember her struggles with cerebral palsy. It was an amazing book that I probably read when I was 10 or 12, so a good 30 years ago. It must be a good book, since it has obviously stayed with so many people for so many years.

Sara ... glad to see you are writing more because I am sure that means you are feeling perkier and prayers for your health are being answered. I love trying out new handwriting and intend to use many things I've practiced when I get the chance to sit and scrapbook our lives. Fun! ... thinking of you and praying for healing. Love, Debra
  • gitz · 2 months ago
Hey, Debra... thanks for all the prayers I know you offer up; it's appreciated more that you know. There are glimpses of more strength and I'm trying to take advantage of them. It sounds like this might be a longer road than I thought, but I'm hopeful that during that time each little positive gain will be even sweeter. :)

Have you scrapbooked at all, or are you just getting started? You'll LOVE it. I do all digital now, and can't wait to get back at it.
  • gitz · 2 months ago
I think her nickname was Wren. I remember being so amazed at the story of her whistling as a baby in the hospital nursery. I'm an adult and I still can't whistle! :) This is making me want to find that book and read it again!
  • gitz · 2 months ago
Nancy, that is just amazing. I wonder if that mom who wrote the book has any concept of the impact she had on young people for who they would become later in life.

The thing I've learned through this, is that I am just as whole now as I was when I was more able. Your little girl was a perfect child... perfectly and wholly herself. She was lucky to have a mom who saw that in her.
  • gitz · 2 months ago
Isn't it a great lesson about paying attention to what kids read? I don't always realize how much, even as an adult, what I surround myself with really impacts my mood and thoughts.
  • gitz · 2 months ago
This is silly, but I'm such a visual person that reading you have your fingers AND toes crossed made me laugh at the picture of that in my head :)
  • gitz · 2 months ago
Heidi, that is AMAZING about Ian!!! Seriously, if I could do a happy dance I totally would right now :) You must be so dang proud of him. I'm picturing him doing a little cool-man strut ...

What great news and a relief as you move and get them settled into a new place that this is one less thing "to do" when you get there. I'm sorry I wasn't feeling well enough to call you sooner than I did, but am so excited to hear about your plans :)
  • gitz · 2 months ago
Hey, Missy... I was excited to see that there's a sequal, too. I might have to have one of my friends make a trip to the library for me :)
  • gitz · 2 months ago
Almost *exactly* like God knew. :) I remember being shocked when that came to mind as I was writing just to sort out my own thoughts about what to do. Reminds me to pay more attention to the messages in little things I might normally skim over, you know?
  • gitz · 2 months ago
Shoot... I've had a couple people tell me they have had problems posting. Let me know if it happens again, please. :)

There were definitely seeds planted for me at different times now that I can look back on it. Even the toy typewriter for another Christmas when I was little... they must have known I was more creative minded. [Unless they thought I'd make a good secretary?!?!?} :)
  • gitz · 2 months ago
Thanks, Miss Mandy... always good to see you here, too!
  • gitz · 2 months ago
I don't know why, but it totally doesn't surprise me that you loved the calligraphy set, too. I have a feeling we would have a LOT in common if we hung out in person.

And yes, it never ceases to amaze me that He's in the details. You'd think I'd be used to it by now, but it always takes me by surprise when it happens.
  • gitz · 2 months ago
I'm so amazed by how many people read that book and were impacted by it. I seriously didn't know if anyone would have any idea what I was talking about! I will definitely be looking into the sequel now that I know it exists...
  • gitz · 2 months ago
That is so funny. :) I wish I could just beam myself over to your house so I could write on a wall for you :)
  • gitz · 2 months ago
Hey, Kristy... was just thinking about you the other day. How are you feeling? Is the due date getting close?
  • gitz · 2 months ago
Oh my gosh, Sheryl... I read the book "No Language But A Cry" in seventh grade and remember being so impacted by it. It was so heartbreaking I didn't want to keep reading, yet was so invested in the people I couldn't put it down.

Even though not as you planned or hoped, it's great how things early in life prepare us for what comes later, isn't it?
  • gitz · 2 months ago
Hi, Kathryn... it's good to be back when I can. When I'm not on here and have to be laying down resting, my thoughts are often about what I want to write about when I'm able to. I think about you all way more than you know!
  • gitz · 2 months ago
You're right, Pol... usually the things I can give a million reasons for are the things I'm fighting too hard for. It always ends up that the simpler solutions are the ones I should trust and move forward with in faith.
  • Kaycee · 2 months ago
Ha! Hey if it makes you laugh then I am all for it. :) I can actually cross
my second toe over my big toe, so I wasn't even kidding! Though of course I
can't maintain that and actually walk around (there's another silly mental
    picture for you!).
